OCHA Situation Report No. 1
Mexico - Tropical Storm Lorena
03 October 2001


This message is not an official hurricane warning or alert for any
country.

1. The National Weather Center in Miami reports that at 1500 GMT, 03
October 2001, the center of tropical storm Lorena was located near
latitude 16.7 north, longitude 106.5 west, or about 215 miles (350 km)
southwest of Manzanillo. Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph (95
km/hr) with higher gusts some additional strengthening is possible during
the next 24 hours.

2. Lorena is moving toward the north at near 12 mph (19 km/hr) and this
general motion is expected to continue for the next 24 hours. On this
track the center should be approaching the western coast of Mexico tonight
or early Thursday.

3. Tropical Storm Warning and Hurricane Watch remain in effect along the
coast of Mexico from Punta San Telmo northward to Mazatlan.
