Tropical Storm Iris - The Caribbean
6 October 2001


This message is not an official hurricane warning or alert for any
country.

1.  The National Weather Center in Miami reports that at 1500 GMT, 6
October 2001, the center of Tropical Storm Iris was located near latitude
16.7 north, longitude 71.2 west or about 65 miles (105 km) southeast of
Cabo Beata in the Barahona peninsula of the Dominican Republic. Maximum
sustained winds are near 65 mph (100 km/hr) with higher gusts.

2.  Iris is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph or 26 km/hr.

3.  At 1500 GMT, the following warnings/watches are in effect:

4.  Hurricane Warning: Jamaica, eastern Cuba (for the provinces of Granma
Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo), the Dominican Republic (along the south
coast from Barahona to La Beata), and Haiti (along the south coast from
the Dominican Republic border to Anse d' Hainault)

5.  Hurricane Watch: the Cayman Islands and eastern Cuba (for the
Provinces of Las Tunas and Camaguey)

6.  Tropical Storm Warning: the Dominican Republic (along the south coast
from Punta Palenque to Barahona)
