Tropical Storm Chantal The Caribbean OCHA Situation Report No. 2 19 August 2001

This message is not an official hurricane warning or alert for any country. 1. The National Weather Center in Miami reports that at 1500 GMT, 19 August 2001, the center of tropical storm Chantal was estimated to be near latitude15.5 north, longitude 80.3 west or about 270 miles (435 km) south of Grand Cayman. Maximum sustained winds were near 70 MPH (110 km/h) with higher gusts. 2. At 1500 GMT, the following warnings/watches were in effect: Jamaica: tropical storm warning for Jamaica discontinued Cayman Islands: a hurricane watch and a tropical storm warning Belize: a hurricane watch from Belize City northward, and a tropical storm watch from Belize City southward Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico: a hurricane watch from Chetumal to Cancun 3.
