Tropical Storm Chantal The Caribbean OCHA Situation Report No. 3 20 August 2001

This message is not an official hurricane warning or alert for any country. 1. The National Weather Center in Miami reports that at 1500 GMT, 20 August 2001, the center of tropical storm Chantal was estimated to be near latitude17.7 north, longitude 86.3 west or about 140 miles (225 km) east-southeast of Chetumal, Mexico. Maximum sustained winds were near 65 mph (100 km/h) with higher gusts. 2. At 1500 GMT, the following warnings/watches were in effect: Hurricane watch: from Belize City northward to Cancun Tropical storm warning: all of coastal Belize, and for the east coast of the Yucatan peninsula from the Mexico/Belize border northward to Cancun 3.
