OCHA Situation Report No. 3
Mexico - Hurricane Juliette
27 September 2001


This message is not an official hurricane warning or alert for any
country.

1.  The National Weather Center in Miami reports that at 1500 GMT, 27
September 2001, the center of hurricane Juliette was located near latitude
21.1 north, longitude 110.9 west, or about 140 miles (225 km)
south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas. Maximum sustained winds are near 100
mph (160 km/hr) with higher gusts.

2.  Juliette is moving toward the north at near 8 mph (13 km/hr) and this
motion is expected to continue for the next 6 to 12 hours, bringing the
core of Juliette dangerously close to the southern tip of Baja California.

3.  Hurricane Warning is in effect along the west coast of the Baja
California Peninsula south of 24 degrees north latitude and for the east
coast of the peninsula south of Punta Arena. Tropical Storm Warning is in
effect along the west coast of Baja California north of 24 degrees north
latitude to Punta Abreojos and along the east coast from Punta Arena
northward to Loreto.
