Tropical Storm Isidore - The Caribbean
19 September 2002


This message is not an official hurricane warning or alert for any
country.

1. The National Weather Center in Miami reports that at 12:00 GMT, 19
September 2002, the center of Tropical Storm Isidore was located near
latitude 20.0 north, longitude 81.0 west or about 45 miles (75 km)
north-northeast of Grand Cayman. Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph
(100 km/hr) with higher gusts. Isidore is moving toward the west-northwest
near 10 mph or 16 km/hr.

2. At 1200 GMT, the following warnings/watches were in effect:

3. Hurricane Warning: remains in effect for central and western Cuba for
the provinces of Cienfuegos, Villa Clara, Matanzas, Ciudad de la Habana,
La Habana and Pinar del Rio, including the Isle of Youth

4. Hurricane Watch: is in effect for Sancti-Spiritus and Ciego de Avila
(Cuba).

5. Tropical Storm Watch: remains in effect for the Cayman Islands

6. The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management of Jamaica
placed the island under a Flash Flood Watch. Parish Disaster Committees
have been asked to remain on alert and ready to mobilize at short notice.

7. In Cuba, according to information provided by the UN Resident
Coordinator's Office, a state of cyclone alert has been issued by Civil
Defense authorities for the provinces of Ciego de Avila and Sancti
Spiritus, and a cyclone warning has been issued from Pinar del Rio to
Villaclara. Persons living in low-lying areas are being evacuated to
temporary shelters.
