Indonesia - Volcano - Update
Mt. Merapi, Central Java Province

This report is developed by the HC/RC Office in Indonesia based on
information provided by the Research and Technology Development Agency
for Vulcanology (BPPTK) Yogyakarta, the National Coordinating Board for
the Management of Disaster (BAKORNAS PB), the District Executing Unit
for the Management of Disaster (SATLAK PB) of Boyolali District, the
Magelang District, the Sleman District, the Klaten District, and media
reports.
I. SITUATION
1. BPPTK Yogyakarta reported that 198 multi phase tremors, 4 shallow
volcanic tremors and one tectonic tremor occurred on Tuesday (25 Apr.).
On Wednesday (26 Apr.), as of 0600 hours, there were 57 multi phase
tremors, and one shallow volcanic tremor. The alert level of Mt. Merapi
still remain in level III.
2. SATLAK PB Boyolali (26 Apr) reported no additional displaced person
in the evacuation site in the district.
3. SATLAK PB Magelang reported (26 Apr.) that one displaced person went
home making a total of 1,299 persons staying at the evacuation site
until today.
4. In Klaten District, Kemalang Sub-district, SATLAK Klaten reported (26
Apr.) the total number of displaced persons has increased from 1,105 to
1,226 with additional 121 persons coming from Sidorejo village.
5. SATLAK Sleman reported (26 Apr.) that there has been no evacuation
yet in the district.
II. NATIONAL RESPONSE
6. BAKORNAS PB confirmed (26 Apr.) that the Government has allocated
Rp.30 billion for emergency response of which the Ministry of Finance
has approved Rp.24 billion. Rp. 10 billion will be disbursed for
disaster-affected provinces, including Central Java and Yogyakarta for
Merapi.
7. The Deputy for Disaster Management of BAKORNAS PB will visit the four
affected districts around Merapi (Boyolali, Magelang, Klaten, and
Sleman) from Friday (29 Apr.) to Monday (1 May) to check the conditions
of the IDPs, with particular attention to the reported psychological
impact of the evacuation among the displaced persons in Dompol village.
III. INTERNATIONAL RESPONSE
8. The UN HC/RC Office has deployed an emergency officer to the site.
The person is meeting different actors on the ground to review the
status of preparedness and identify gaps.
9. The UN Technical Working Group on Disaster Risk Reduction met in
Jakarta today to review the information on Mt. Merapi and plan future
actions. The meeting was attended by representatives from BAKORNAS PB.
Agencies in the position to make immediate contribution in response to
Mt. Merapi are requested to inform the HC/RC Office about their
preparedness status. A matrix was developed and shared with
participants to compile information on availability of relief stocks
with UN agencies. It was also suggested that an inter-agency mission
together with BAKORNAS PB visit the area to undertake a rapid assessment
of needs in the affected areas.
10. The UN HC/RC Office will continue to be in direct contact with
pertinent government and non-government institutions, as well as with
the Indonesian Red Cross to monitor the situation.
