This report is developed by HC/RC Office in Indonesia based on
information provided by the Research and Technology Development Agency
for Vulcanology (BPPTK) Yogyakarta, National Coordinating Board for the
Management of Disaster (BAKORNAS PB), District Executing Unit for the
Management of Disaster (SATLAK PB) of Boyolali District, Magelang
District, Sleman District, Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), Department of
Health, OXFAM GB, and media reports.
SITUATION
1. BPPTK Yogyakarta 20 Apr. observation reported 154 multi phase
tremors, 9 streams of lava, 13 volcanic tremors, with white and thick
SO2 smoke of 350 m height from its crater.
NATIONAL RESPONSE
2. Satlak PB Boyolali reported (21 Apr.) that the people in the district
are on standby waiting for the instruction from the district and
provincial government for evacuation.
3. Satlak PB Magelang reported (21 Apr.) that a number of residents in
Magelang District have voluntarily evacuated. 59 persons from
Gowoksabang sub-village, 302 persons from Gowokpos sub-village, 611
persons from Kaliurang village, around 300 persons together with two
sick people are now staying in an identified temporary shelter in
Tanjung sub-village.
4. Satlak PB Sleman reported (21 Apr.) that the local government and the
people in the district are ready for evacuation. The Head of district
led the local government coordination meeting today to discuss the
evacuation process in detail.
5. The Indonesian Red Cross reported (21 Apr.) that 20,000 masks have
been distributed to the community in Sleman, Magelang, Boyolali, Klaten,
and Yogyakarta. PMI warehouses are on standby with logistic supplies
including water bladder, water tank, and water and sanitation kits.
6. Department of Health has deployed 320 medical personnel and provided
40,000 masks, 10 tons biscuit, 65 vest and hats, one ambulance, one
tent, one generator, one emergency kit, and a total of 220 body bags.
INTERNATIONAL RESPONSE
7. OXFAM GB participated in a coordination meeting (21 Apr.) led by the
Vice Governor of Yogyakarta province which is also attended by the joint
WHO, Ministry of Health and University of Gajah Mada team. OXFAM has
been conducting meetings with relevant stakeholders to ensure a
coordinated preparedness effort once an eruption occurs. OXFAM carried
out assessments in several evacuation sites and will focus their
assistance on water, sanitation and waste management in the temporary
shelters.
8. The UN RC/HC Office in Jakarta will continue to be in direct contact
with pertinent government and non-government institutions, as well as
with the Indonesian Red Cross to monitor the situation.
