PERU - EARTHQUAKE
DHA SITUATION REPORT NO.3
15 NOVEMBER 1996
1. The Government of Peru issued, on 13 November 1996, a
declaration of emergency for 60 days in the Provinces of Ica,
Palpa, Nazca, Caraveli, Lucanas and Huancavelica.
2. Priority emergency needs in the affected areas are
tents (around 3,000 needed, less than 1,000 currently
available) and blankets. Clothing also required.
3. The United Nations Disaster Management Team (UNDMT)
composed of Field representatives of FAO, ILO, UNICEF,
UNESCO, UNFPA, UNDCP, WFP, WHO/PAHO and World Bank, held
a meeting on 14 November 1996 to review the situation in
the aftermath of the earthquake in Peru.
4. UNICEF and WHO/PAHO assessing drinking water situation.

5. DHA is prepared to serve as a channel for cash
contributions to be used during immediate relief phase.
Funds are spent in coordination with relevant
organizations of UN System, and DHA provides doner
Governments with written confirmation on utilization of
funds contributed.
6. Funds should be transferred to DHA Account No. CO-

7. For coordination purposes, donors are requested to
