DHA-GENEVA SITUATION REPORT NO. 4
11 MARCH 1997
1. Heavy rains continue in Peruvian Andes causing further mudslides and
casualties.
2. In addition to the relief items mentioned in the situation report number 3
of 6 March 1997, rehabilitation and reconstruction requirements are being
assessed by the United Nations Disaster Management Team. At this stage,
donors are requested to consider the possibility of funding:
(a) Removal of debris (overall budget of USD 790,000
covers removal in areas affected by floods as well
as areas affected by the earthquake of 12 November
1996 (see DHA situation report number 7 of 11 March
1997 on Peru - Earthquake)
(b) Drainage in flooded areas
(c) Reconstruction of schools in areas affected by the
floods.
(d) Renting of helicopter for assessment missions
(50 hours at USD 2,500 an hour).

4. CONTRIBUTIONS

5. DHA is prepared to serve as a channel for cash contributions to be used
during the immediate relief phase. Funds are spent in coordination with
relevant organizations of the UN system, and DHA provides donor Governments
with written confirmation on utilization of the funds contributed.
6. Donors wishing to channel their contributions through DHA may transfer
the funds to DHA account no. CO. 590.160.1 at Swiss Bank Corporation, Case
Postale 2770, CH- 1211 Geneva 2, with reference: Peru - Floods.
7. For coordination purposes, donors are requested to inform DHA Geneva, as
indicated below, of relief missions/ pledges/ contributions and their
