             PAPUA NEW GUINEA - CYCLONE JUSTIN
             DHA-GENEVA SITUATION REPORT NO. 1
                       14 MARCH 1997



1. Cyclone Justin has been affecting Papua New Guinea. National
Disaster and Emergency Services (NDES) of the Government
confirms 8 deaths from incidents in various parts of the
country with 24 missing. Between 1,000 and 1,500 houses have
been destroyed and some 12,000 to 15,000 people have been made
homeless, also at locations all around the country.
