Summary & Statistics
Muzaffarabad
- During the reporting period 86 families/426 individuals returned to
their areas of origin at their own.
- Residual Case load: Total vulnerable residual case load (mainly
landless) is 3906 families (20,000 individual) residing in 43 camps.
- UNICEF and partner organisation will stop the tankering water to camps
by 1st July 2006 and looking for sustainable water supply system
- The relocation figures of 18 villages are constantly changing. As per
latest CMO informed about 2000 families (15000-20000 individuals) from
highly hazardous seismic zones of 11 villages, Tehsil Muzaffarabad will
be evacuated/relocated to the existing camps. Government does not have
enough land and it takes long time to acquire private land. Therefore
the existing camps will be used for the temporary shelter until durable
solution is worked out.
- CMO in collaboration with UNHCR working on consolidation of camps. The
existing 43 camps may reduce to 37.
- Registration and constraint survey (to be carried out by IOM in
collaboration with CMO) of residual IDP population under preparation and
is expected to be completed within June.

Note: (1) For Mansehra camps with less than 50 tents are not included.
The population data before the start of the return phase are taken from
registration data. More families arrived in the camps after this data
was collected, thus the numbers shown for remaining IDPs above is
different from the difference between the second and third column below
(and the difference between the fifth and sixth column below).
(2) For Muzaffarabad the families and individuals before the start of
the return phase comprise only registered IDPs.
