A straw hut in the courtyard of the Ariel Glaser Paediatric Centre in
Bouake is filled with children of all ages playing or eating meals
prepared by the centre's cook, all under the watchful eye of relatives.

AFGHANISTAN: Can condoms fulfil multiple expectations?
Millions of condoms will be distributed across Afghanistan in 2008 in a
new drive to prevent sexually transmitted diseases, reduce maternal
mortality and improve family planning, aid agencies and the Ministry of
Public Health (MoPH) said.

Thembi Ngubane, from Khayelitsha, a township in Cape Town, South Africa,
discovered she was HIV positive when she was 16 years old. Six years
later, while attending a support group, she was approached by a United
States-based radio producer interested in making a documentary about a

2. Male Circumcision (MC) Skills Course, Jhpiego and the World Health
Organization (WHO), 9 to 20 June - Lusaka, Zambia
This two-week training is an intensive, hands-on course that will
prepare teams of providers and trainers to implement MC programmes.
Specific skills include circumcision techniques, postoperative care and
facilitating group education sessions on MC.

VACANCIES
1. HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment programme manager, CARE -
Vilankulos, Mozambique
Responsibilities:
- Ensure successful implementation of comprehensive HIV/AIDS programme
in Inhambane, including the counselling, testing, treatment, prevention
of mother-to-child transmission and the treatment of opportunistic
infections
- Ensure technical training and mentorship of partnering staff,
including ministry of health officials
- Establish links between community and clinic services, and community
education initiatives
- Guarantee all programme aspects conform to both ministry of health and
donor guidelines
- Develop and monitor programme budgets
Requirements:
- Master's degree in a related field
- At least five years experience working on HIV/AIDS programming in
Africa
- Budget design and monitoring experience
- Project design, management, and monitoring experience
- Knowledge of health sector policies and procedures
- Fluent Portuguese
- At least 10 years experience working on HIV/AIDS programming in
Mozambique is preferred

2. Regional reproductive health advisor, Population Services
International (PSI) - East Africa
Responsibilities:
- Through desk research and country visits, develop a comprehensive
understanding of country environment as it relates to reproductive
health services and the capacity within the country to undertake PSI's
project
- Collaborate with country leaders to develop and implement annual work
plans for technical assistance
- Provide leadership in the setting of quality standards across the
region
- Lead, supervise and facilitate the development or adaptation of
approaches, tools and methodologies for programme improvement
- Use innovative communications technology and regular regional
exchanges to share lessons learned with other PSI projects outside the
region as well as external audiences
- Lead regional-level project performance reporting, knowledge
management and documentation
- Engage in external relations as needed with donors, governments,
non-governmental organisations and commercial entities
Requirements:
- At least seven years experience supporting large-scale health service
delivery programmes in developing countries
- Relevant graduate level health degree (MPH, MD, etc.)
- Experience with training, supporting and monitoring staff in both
private and public sector settings
- Fluency in English
- Familiarity with the international donor community
- Willingness to travel extensively
- Background in franchising highly desirable
