In Yasin IOM's Verification and Monitoring Unit (VMU) observed 175 families who had returned after the October incident in Kalma IDP Camp, and in Sakali IOM observed 100 families who had fled from Kalma IDP Camp and 466 families who arrived from Muhajaria. - In South Darfur, IOM provided technical assistance to World Vision International to update data for 874 households in Mershing IDP Camp sector 3. - IOM conducted field visits in El Serif (South Darfur) to monitor the use of recently distributed solar cookers. Needs and response by sector Education West Darfur - Over the month of November the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) facilitated the transportation of schooling materials throughout West Darfur, thus enabling over 19,800 school-age children to receive blackboards, chalk, text books, exercise books and stationary equipment. Health and Nutrition North Darfur - The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and GOAL assessed the results of their cooperation in 2007 and agreed to joint activities for 2008 in the reproductive health/gender-based violence (RH/GBV) areas. GOAL supports four clinics on primary health care (PHC) around Kutum and eight in rural areas while UNFPA provides emergency reproductive kits, supplies and equipment to GOAL as well as awareness-raising materials within the framework of a service contract signed between UNFPA and GOAL. It was agreed that in 2008 UNFPA will continue to supply RH kits, awareness-raising materials and conduct training sessions for heath workers based on their needs. - A Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric Care Facility (CEmOC) was established by UNFPA in Kutum hospital and is being run by two medical doctors. Caesarean section rate is 10-15 and normal labour is 20 -25 per month ? the concern is that c-section rates are unusually high indicating (a) necessity of further analysis, (b) training of medical doctors on CEmOC, including epidural anaesthesia, (3) to continue awareness rising activities so as to detect possible complicated deliveries at the early stage thus reducing the number of c-sections performed. All these activities will be supported by UNFPA within 2008 annual work plan. - The construction of a labour room was done in the Kutum hospital this year. It was agreed that UNFPA will support with the repair of premises for CEmOC, provide necessary equipment and conduct training sessions.
