USAID/OFDA Kosovo Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) Update
December 7, 1998

IDPs Not Returning to Suva Reka Due to Lack of Health Care

An IRC representative reported at the December 3, shelter coordination
meeting that villagers throughout the municipality of Suva Reka, cited a lack
of access to medical facilities in the region as the main reason IDPs have
not returned. The IRC rep indicated that during three different days of
shelter assessments in different parts of Suva Reka, he heard complaints
about the lack of medical facilities in almost every village. In several
other villages the IRC rep was told the large Serb presence and general lack
of security was keeping IDPs away.

Water/sanitation NGOs Using Standard Reporting Form

At the December 2, water/sanitation coordination meeting, it was announced
that all NGOs would use a standard form for reporting and coordinating
water/sanitation activities. The form created by Swiss Disaster Relief (SDR)
details the NGO, municipality, village, date of first visit, date of last
visit, ongoing activities, future activities and proposed/needed activities.
The form will be filled out weekly and turned in to SDR who will distribute a
consolidated report at the weekly coordination meeting. The form will
improve coordination among the water/sanitation NGOs and prevent overlap of
activities. SDR also indicated they would be posting the activities form on
the World Wide Web the next few weeks.
